Small plates?

Not the size but the motion in the ocean?

Tapas restaurants are supposed to be more about food tasting and sharing than family sized portions.

I've been to quite a few and always enjoyed them. They are usually moderately priced, but some can be on the expensive side.

It's like going to a restaurant and ordering different appetizers as opposed to one main course.

Variety is the spice of life, you know.

I like tapas. There's a place called Don Fernando's in Richmond-upon-Thames which I frequent.

Love tapas but it always turns out rather, er, pricey, as I get greedy and carried away over-ordering.  Some good places here, but all expensive.  Went to a couple of good ones in London, one near the Old Vic called Meson Don Felipe, and one in Borough Market which didn't take reservations, just turn up and hope but well worth it, Brindisa.  Tried to get in when I was in London last year but it was jam packed and no sign of a table.

the american version of tapas isn't what it's meant to be. they can be good or bad, just depending on what the food used is and who's making them. they're originally supposed to be basically free appetizers. they were propped on the top of a glass of wine (or whatever)-in other words, a top. at some point they wound up on a small plate, encouraging more drinks, like a basket of peanuts at a bar. nowadays they're like the chinese pu-pu platters.

I don't know, but it's been said: You do or don't and then you're dead
So climb away, get higher, son- never straight, just move ahead
Know, my child, that there is no devil seekin' to cause guilt in the hearts to men.
No evil, save blind faith, ignorance, and the desire for the unprepared to blame others for the devastation left in the wake of change.
Fear not the movement of the heavens above or the earth below for change is what we are, my child.
And if we are reflections of the divine we must roll with these changes, for we are these changes.

anyways, if you like them, they're good, and if you don't, then they aren't! lol  They're often (not always) small tastes and samples of regular-sized portions/dishes you can order.

I used to like Chi-Chis restaurants.....they went out of business in Ann Arbor about ten years ago...apparently the people in this area got tired of it....Taco Bell restaurants have increased in number....and while I like the food TB serves, I don't consider it real Mexican in the least... :blink2:

You know it's funny. About 10 years ago I was sent down by my company to oversee the closing and resetelment of a plant we had on the old San Antonio Air Force base.

There were all of these fantastic restaurants in the city, especially along and just off of the river walk. Some of the best TexMex food in the world. Tacco Bell was always packed.

That's a tall order.  If you go to a real Chinese restaurant they will use all of the chicken.  Order something with shrimp or better yet tofu.  You pretty much eat the whole shrimp and you can take off the head if it comes with the head.  You get a plate of chicken uterus, you've pretty much got a plate of chicken uterus.
