I saw this a while ago. Love it because it's the band I fell in love with, at the beginning of '77 and the band I saw a few months later. I would have flipped if I could have seen this then; no YouTube in those days.

Nice to see Geddy singing his parts without taking the vocal melody detour as well.

This is from the in-house CCTV feed. Probably an opening set? Very nice gem.

I love Neil's hi-hat work during the guitar solo.

I can't imagine hearing this back in the mid '70s.  Must have been pretty mind blowing.  It still holds its own to this very day, even among non-Rush music enthusiasts.

I noticed Alex was having issues with the tuning of his guitar throughout the performance but still manage to pull it off.  Probably broke a string during a prior song and it was still stretching.  Were that to happen today, he'd promptly swap with another guitar first chance, or the likelihood is he plays a different guitar for every song now.  :P

And not being someone into these old reels, I haven't seen this yet.  Glad I gave this a chance.

Rush was opening for Foghat that night, and Montrose also played. The next night would be the last time Rush opened for Foghat, and just a few weeks later they permanently became a headliner. Except for 3 shows in Jan 1978, when they opened for Blue Oyster Cult, I don't think they ever opened for anyone else. (Not counting SARS. Ha.)

Geddy's line at the beginning of 2112 says so much. Almost ready to headline, yet opening for 2 bands, maybe the promoter or somebody told them to keep it short. (The other dates prior had a drum solo - it doesn't appear there was one this night.) So, Geddy comes out and says, "We haven't got a lot time tonight . . ." And, then they go on and play their longest song ever. Just fantastic.

Foghat were decent, but man those leather jacket wearing fans must have been bummed having to listening to Geddy's shrills.  It sounds at the end like there were some Rush fans in the audience that night!

I don't eat Weetabix - breakfast food of skinheads - Rice Krispies for me :)

I'm hardly a keen Rush fan, but I've had a copy of this for a good 7 years!

Various versions of this taping have made the rounds of Rush "traders" for many a year - I first saw it around 7 years ago, IIRC.

There really are some gems out there, in some cases they are far better than the official Rush albums.

There are some great tapes from the AtWaS tour, but not many from the 2112 tour. Certain old tracks, like Twilight Zone or The Necromancer are super-rare, and it's fun to hear a recording of them, even if the quality is quite poor. Almost just because it proves it was played.

I had a lot of fun collecting the best recordings (IMO) of each tour. Eventually I reached saturation and now I only listen to a handful of the crazy-best boots.

Interesting that he refers to 2112 as "our last album", although ATWAS was already out. When I saw them the following June he announced that they were going to play "side one from our last studio album".

2112 was also on ATWAS, so he was right either way ;)

Reposted show.

So weird comparing this to their 77 Hammersith AFTK performance. The Passaic show just flows - no odd time keeping shifts in Bastille or Lakeside - they groove along perfectly.

Fast forward one year and the same songs are barely held together. Did Mr. Peart have a bit of a substance problem in 77? Or was he trying out new stuff? Or was it just an off night?
