One day I will turn to the dark side and buy a Kindle thingy. I decluttered the loft by giving about 500 books to the charity shop, and don't want it to fill back up. Too much weight on the beams....

I've read that some books don't work well on the Kindle, though. Sheet music, fr'instance. You need paper for that.

I have a HP Slate 500 tablet (running windows 7).

I went that route becasue I wanted to be able to rund microsoft office products to read work related material. And like Greg says, you can load reading apps for just about anything.

I like books. The feel and weight of paper. I also like the look of books on the shelf.. I have 2 bookcases in my home office full of programming and other books. I couldn't imagine the emptyness if i got rid of them...

But I also like the speed and conveniance of reading on screen,

Technical books, like programming or medical books, anything intensive on detailed graphics are not great for e-readers at this point. I just use my Kindle for reading text. The occasional illustration comes out ok though.

I agree. I've tried some technical books on the ereader.... it's OK for reading.. but not for notes or reference... like flipping pages back and forth when trying to grasp a concept or compare things...

Guitar pro does this.. and it really helps in composition, becasue you can hear while you're writing. You can put in the notes or the tabs for a couple of bars for a guitar or bass, and then play it back.   Frigging computers changing the way we do things.... ;)

I have a Samsung Galaxy tablet that is just awesome.  You can use it for a bazillion things and load all kinds of reading apps on it.

That's the route I'd go...

The Galaxy is one of a few that are high on the list, heard and saw lots of good reviews.  Also looking at some tablets by Asus.

Check out the new Nexus 7s. Early reviews say it is the best tablet yet.

Still has the drawback of no e-ink.

I might get one soon to have as my travel device. Pair up with a bluetooth keyboard and you have a very portable laptop-like device, albeit only with android OS.

This makes the argument for me much better than I can.

(Ahem...I know Rush has songs in 4/4, but I did not make this meme. I just think it's funny. So please stop pointing this out to me! Thanks.)

I love paper books too, but I'm not lugging six of them around with me when I travel. And I need that many, at a minimum.

Sidenote to C...: I'm pretty sure that if you examine the time signatures from every second of Rush music, they play in 4/4 the most...
