What parts in Rush songs are unintentionally funny, musically or lyrically, iyo? Those parts or lyrics that kind of make you cringe a bit or maybe even cause you to feel embarrassed for them?  B)

In Marathon (which I think is a pretty cool song, for the record) there's this keyboard part that comes off like a musical representation of the lyric "If you don't burnout too fast." It happens right after Geddy sings that line. I find it so incredibly tacky that I usually wince when I hear it. lol.

Hey there goes Alex. He's loaded with money. Wow he's really set himself up great.

I don’t think Neil writes well about new technology. The Body Electric is a cringe fest from beginning to end.

Agree about Neil and his reflections on the technology of the time, which do sound awkward and naive.

I'm reminded of the Steve Hillage album which is named after a control flow construct from BASIC, a programming language intended for beginners and popular on the microcomputers of the early '80s.

Any song - including the beloved 2112 and the revered Subdivisions - where there is a spoken voice.  It is the worst.  I am not crazy about Chain Lightning ( I love the "sundogs..." section), but that ending "That's nice" is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever heard.  Like, I would never play that song in front of another human being.

Red Sector A. I get that it's very personal and all that but damn the keyboard stabs etc are just awful, as well as the electronic drums. The last time I saw them play it live (R30) it was just a giant cheese fest, couldn't help but just to laugh through the damn thing.

LOVE that part and look forward to it's arrival when listening. I don't believe there is a single instance when they do this and I cringe. I like them all,

I enjoy those very much and am glad they added that creativity and element to their tunes.

The laughing during the intro to Big Money

"Goo Mash Goo" during LVS

The radio play at the end of Countdown

Villagers yelling at the Witch Hunt

Shocked.  An all-time fave of theirs for me.

Cringes for me:  Chemistry lyrics; much of Power Windows, Dog Years; almost all of S&A lyrically; almost all of Clockwork Angels lyrically, especially the title track.

Nobody’s Hero.

Honestly- if they just flopped the first and second verses it’d be less cringey.

“I knew he was different in his sexuality...”

What are we - 12?!?

Really- there’s no other way to say your friend was gay?

And Geddy’s delivery is just awful. Blech.

Presto.

So unintentionally funny (I still love it).

But the whole - ahem- fancy keyboard flourish after “If I could wave my magic wand” just conjures a silly euphemism.

I couldn’t say, I’ve had FBN for more than 40 years but I think I’ve only ever listened to Rivendell all the way through once.

Haha. I really like the spoken word parts from 2112 and Subdivisions although I'll admit the latter sounded pretty goofy to me at first. I find these parts emblematic of Rush's idiosyncratic, nerdy appeal. I have to say though that I'm with you on "That's nice!" Super dumb. lol.
