And the place was packed!  I was really happy for them that the turnout was so good.  Lots of Rush fans, of course.  Lotta Rush t-shirts in the crowd.   But yeah, I wasn't sure how many people actually knew about the band and the show outside of the dedicated Rush fans on sites like this and facebook and such.  Was a damn nice surprise, and I'm sure just as awesome for the band to have so much support!  One guy was from Atlanta, and it was his 3rd show!!

I was impressed when I read on Facebook that one couple made the trip from Chicago but Atlanta is nuts.

Hey there goes Alex. He's loaded with money. Wow he's really set himself up great.

Great meeting you as well!  And the rest of the band.  And Rocky's mom! :)  We were rockin' out next to each other in the crowd and I finally turned and asked if she was "related to the singer".  *LoL*  :)
Oh yeah! How could I forget about that couple from the UK?!?  That was pretty wild!  :D

They’re playing San Pedro. That’s my backyard. Will be there.

Hourglass - one of my faves.  :D  If I recall correctly, Billy said that Rocky didn't have her in ear monitors for this show.  And still killed it!

Chem - you won't be disappointed!  :2 thumbs up:

They play so well but it’s nice they have some originals too. It’s almost like getting new Rush.

That's exactly how I feel about it.  They've nailed the sound, and are creating new stuff with it.

It's different though, in the sense that YYNOT's material is more... accessible than Rush's. At least that's how I see it.

Billy pretty much writes hits in the style of Rush.

Yeah, I say leave the in-ear monitors at home from now on. lol. Rocky has a cosmically beautiful voice but she turned into a real rock singer at the Detroit show. I still thought of her primarily as a pop singer before this.  The only hesitation I have about that is that I know what rock singers often end up doing to their voices. But there are vocal techniques hard rock and metal singers can use to protect their vocal cords. I saw vocal coach Ken Tamplin demonstrate them in a video on You Tube. Whatever approach she uses, I hope she finds a way to protect her voice if she continues to sing like a hard rock singer. Granted YYNOT currently only plays shows every two months or so but if they end up becoming a big band that tours constantly it will be hard on her voice.

Which is pretty much what happened to Geddy singing those same types of songs. You can start hearing the damage around the AF2K / HEM era. Granted, that's a long way off for Rocky, time wise, but it is a lesson to take to heart, IMHO.

He has said that was totally intentional for this debut release, but hinted that future original material could stray a bit away from being so "Rush-esque".  I don't mind as long as it's as catchy and well written / performed as this!

Yeah, as fun and often brilliant he can be writing in this accessible Rush style it's probably best for YYNOT to find their own identity. Rush shrugged off the Zeppelin influence of the first album and look what they ended up doing.

I've loved the YYNOT instrumental since it was released about 2 1/2 years ago. It's such a brilliant tribute to the band. Now here it is updated with much better sound quality and a new Rushy ending tacked on.

From the description: (typos included :))

Here is the story behind the song:

During the Rush R40 concert in 2015, Billy got the inspiration to write, produce and record a piece to honor the band's long lasting ispiration and influence on him as a child. The idea was to including many "winks" and "nods" to various early Rush albums while still offering up some original ideas along the way. "I really just did it for myself and just for fun. I just felt an overwelming feeling of nostalgia and wanted to put something down that expressed my love for the band. I never intended to do anything with it. That's also why I gave it a bit of a silly name. But once Tim re-recorded my bass parts, it took on a life of it's own and we are thrilled with where it's taken us and how many people have enjoyed it."
