For those of you that are interested, I will do weekly updates with photos for the next year that we will be living in Bangkok and exploring Asia, mostly for seeing more bird species.

Boobies!

Sorry, my inner Boobie lover had to say that.

Seriously, looks very cool, Mike.  That's a pretty big deal spending all that time in Asia...sounds awesome!  Be sure to post reminders about updates in here if you can, as well.

I finally got a decent, long lens just in time for a trip to Florida about a week from now. Looking forward to seeing some birds and maybe other critters we don't have around these parts.

They said I could be anything, so I became a disappointment.

Orlando. We already have a trip planned to the Merritt Island wildlife refuge plus one closer to their home. Hopefully it will warm up by the 16th. It was 31 there yesterday morning.

Merritt is outstanding. Saw a Yellow-billed cuckoo there, the only one I've ever seen.

Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, FL is not too far from Orlando.  I've never been there but I've heard it's beautiful and a great place for bird watching.

Terrific site, I envy you your interest Mike.

I've developed a faint and rather uninformed interest in birds thanks to spending a lot more time outdoors on a bike, this last few years. Quite often hear the hoot of an owl or see a predator species of some sort, and wonder what they are. I've seen an awful lot of dead ones, I'm sorry to say. Pheasants and grouse especially.

My favourite bird sighting was last year, when I had to stop the bike to allow a huge brood of baby pheasants (or grouse, I'm afraid I never know the difference) to cross a secluded country lane, guided by one of their parents.
