I've thought about deactivating my account and may still do it someday but for now it's manageable. I unfollow or unlike stuff I no longer want to deal with and that's helped a lot. I also use Facebook Purity to hide a lot of the more annoying stuff that FB tries to push on users.

I originally signed up for FB back in 2006 or 2007 (far less irritating back then) to stay in touch with a select group of online friends.  It has also allowed me to reconnect with some childhood friends.

I’ll take a hard line just for the sake of coversation:

Facebook violates your privacy on the regular and actually sells your information.

Anything you, or perhaps your kids, post on there is recorded for all of eternity, can be then removed of its context and then used to hurt you.

Your genuine friendshsips are being exploited to sell you shit.

Those cat memes are actually spyware created by the KGB.

As I used to say to middle school students in my tech awareness speeches, you are the product when it comes to social media.

Totally this.  I've said the same exact things for years, as well.  You are not the customer, you are the product.  People think they are the customer, but they are wrong.

Facebook is gay.  Only use it once in a while to stalk people.  You know, ex-girlfriend from 30 years ago, etc.

Maybe Facebook is the real beginning of Skynet. Except in this case, FaceSkyBookNet will only let you know when birthdays are coming up and who you can poke. Preferable to a T-1000 murdering you in your sleep
