Ha, a friend of mine and I got invited to one a couple of years ago and were kicked off within a week for busting on Dog Years!

Really? Dog years? That's like clinical fanboiism.

I'm on two of them and kept them mostly for news, however it's just ridiculous.  I post things that really piss them off too and it's the mildest stuff like disliking Dog Years or Tai Shan.

Ah just like the old days. Let's argue about subjective tastes in music. Not.

I do still love you, James. You're a top bloke.

Love you too, Mike. And you didn't disappoint in person ♥

Was good hanging with Mike at my first Rushcon. Would like to hang with you as well some day. Especially as a fellow Strat aficionado. Broke out the Dan Smith the other day. Damn it sounded great.

Good point. I just listened to all the studio albums and it was pretty apparent. That wimpy-sounding ride pattern on TFE (the song) is a prime example.

Hold Your Fire was a revelation. Always been a fan, but there are some seriously strong songs on it.

A fair point. Neil was a power-player, which is what I preferred and what intensified their sound when they needed it in the 70s and 80s, prior to Gruber. But, in his 40s, had he maintained that technique he could have started to experience serious muscle and joint damage. We can debate whether you give a shit about Rush from the 90s on, let alone the late 80s, but we still got new Rush music and tours with 3-hour shows.

Maybe the 3 hour shows did him in.

Perhaps, but we at least we got a few song gems and some great shows post 96, regardless of his playing style and some of the horrid songs they released as well. That could have been cut much shorter if he had physical problems, especially when compounded with his person events 97-98.

There was also a 20 minute intermission: http://www.blabbermo...tails-revealed/

But, don't forget they also did soundcheck before every show and Neil played his typical 10 minute solo, which was consistently demanding.

This is coming from one of the biggest and longest RUSH fans, I didn't care for the 3 hour RUSH concerts. Like you said, adding in the 5+ minute intro's and the 20 minute intermission just took the air out of the arena's. It also caused the band to Sample tons of musical parts which put them on auto pilot.

 Sorry for getting off topic.

And the drum solos would have been better if he kept them to about 4-5 minutes, or less.

They said I could be anything, so I became a disappointment.

When your drummer is triggering your guitar parts, you got problems.

Good gravy, what song or songs did that occur?

I always got a chuckle that on a couple/three songs the leads were triggered and Al was playing the rhythm parts. That's the way it appeared to me, i could be wrong on that, but to my eyes, thats was was occurring. Cant recall what songs offhand.

They were in their 40's when they started the Evening With Rush format and probably needed the intermission to relax, have a drink, take a shit, etc. before tackling the second hour of playing.

He definitely took a turn between CP and TFE and it got weird... I mean, I imagine it's hard to be cool and relevant and whatnot forever. That goofy hat and those fruity shoes and his whole way of going about things just said "I'm not the guy who played on Moving Pictures anymore!". He looked more and more uncomfortable when he played as he got older and I found it hard to watch him. I just try to be glad they did what they did and realize you can't be awesome forever.
