I, like so many on this board I assume, have dug deep into the Soundgarden catalog.

Currently listening to 'Live on I-5'.

Matt Cameron is the guy. He's got the power, and the ability to seamlessly shift in odd time sigs.

He's also got one hell of of a pocket. You won't catch this guy rushing through shit, and he would be one of the few I think that could handle the newer Rush material.

He's also got a Geddy record under his belt.

'Cameron, Lee, Lifeson' has a nice ring to it.

Is the newer Rush material harder than the older Rush material?

No, I don't think so. But NPis a different player on the latter material than in his heyday. I don't see Portnoy locking in a groove like with BU2B. Cameron though...

Cameron has that hard rock feel that NP had adopted. Stuff like Animate, Stick It Out, not to mention TSOR and TS, would be perfect material for MC.

Now that I think about it: I think it's possible that 80s NP would have a tough time playing 2000 era NP material. Of course, until very recently, NP had no problems playing the older material.

If Soundgarden is done then PJ might tour more and take more of his time. If not then yes, Rush 3.0 is a possibility

If they ever do play with someone else I'd hate it if they called it Rush.

I have mixed feelings about that.  I'd live with it if they did, but yes, I'd prefer they called it something else.  Maybe break the format up a bit by adding a keyboard player or second guitarist too.

I'd be fine with it. When I got into Rush 25% of the catalogue was Peart free. Heck, he's only a drummer FFS...

Haven't Geddy and Alex said they would never replace Neil? I could see a new project with other musicians, but I think the chances of them continuing as Rush or even playing Rush material with a new drummer is slim to none.

I'm willing to believe that playing with Yes got them itching to do something. I don't think they're ready to completely call it quits.

If they called it Rush, it would be for commercial reasons primarily. More asses in the seats.

I completely agree, I just don't think they'll call it Rush or play Rush material.  I'd wager they would do something different, not just find a new drummer and continue as a three-piece.

There is no question they'd play Rush material. They want people to come to the shows!

I think it was Geddy during the Rio documentary that said had Neil decided to not come back before VT that Rush would have been done. He said something like he and Alex would probably make new music but not under the name Rush.

Rush to me will always be Geddy and Alex and a big drum kit. The person behind the drum kit is completely expendable. Record, tour and pay captain grumpy his 1/3rd share to stay the hell home.

A singer should be high on the priority list while they're at it.

Don't forget they'll need a decent guitar player. Boy, this is turning into a project.
