So, a modern equivalent of an OB-X that really sounds the business seems to have been something bigger companies have thus far been either unwilling or unable to produce. Surprise, at NAMM, something more akin to that than anything we've seen from DSI or even Oberheim themselves in the present era was just unveiled. And it was conceived by a teenager who started on the project at the age of 15. Damn, can you imagine being that focused and driven and having it so together at that age? I hope this product gets off the ground and his work pays off.

Impressive sounding machine.  $3500 - wow!  That's almost my entire recording setup (sans instruments),

Yeah, it will be a little pricey, and would probably be somewhat less so if produced by a large company that could buy components in bulk. Still a bargain compared to the $6K+ prices the original OB-X is now fetching on the used market, though. If you converted the price of an OB-X back when it was in production to today's dollars, it would cost over $15K.

What strikes me is that it really does sound more like an OB-X from what I'm hearing than, for example, the DSI OB-6. I've seen vids of people trying to do the "Tom Sawyer" filter growl on the OB-6 and it's not quite there. You hear a bit of that kind of sound in this vid and it actually sounds like it can deliver.

Might as well jump. JUMP!

Dang that is one brainy kid. At that age I was still trying to master a tuning fork.

A short article about attempts to capture the OB-X sound featured on Jump on different synths. (Has videos showing examples).
