Polish progsters have a new album, "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" coming out in September.

One of the tracks has been released on YouTube. Edging towards a more Lunatic Soul sound but still, Old Riverside Good, New Riverside Good :)

Seems heavily derivative of the Porcs, quite like it though.

Indeed. The drummer and the guitarist both look like doormen at an Essex nightclub.

Old Riverside WORSE. The drumming only
gets better from the first record.

None of them are especially great players, but that's unimportant, it's the quality of the songs and the overall sound that works with Riverside. Similarly for Porcupine Tree, they were better with Chris Maitland drumming than they were with Gavin Harrison. The exception is In Absentia, but that's due to the exceptional quality of the songs on that album.

I've been a fan of PT since 1996. I prefer the stuff that got me into them in the first place rather than what they changed into.

Not even Mariusz Duda? Love his bass tone :)

The boy Lapaj isn't too shabby. But songs will always trump technical; ability.

He's not a flash player like Chris Squire or Geddy but as you say he has a great sound.

Let me see, there's a phrase for that sort of thing that sometimes gets used around here...I can't quite put my finger on it.

Hey there goes Alex. He's loaded with money. Wow he's really set himself up great.

I’d forgotten this thread existed. Here are their North American tour dates for next year. Definitely worth seeing if they are anywhere near you.

Just to add extra joy to this thread here’s a terrible photo of myself and Nick at one of their recent UK gigs.
Bonus points if you can tell me where you’ve seen the guy on Nick’s right before.

Well, I've seen in him in more places than I've ever been to. Is that the right answer?

If you had to recommend a first Riverside album to a friend (me for example), which would be the best intro?

If you think you’d like a heavier Pink Floyd try their first album Out of Myself. If you just want a heavier sound then Anno Domino High Definition. If you’d like melodic prog try Love, Fear and the Time Machine.
