In this age when female circumcision is under fire, as well as restrictive abortion laws, citing that a woman has a right to decide what happens to her body, should male circumcision also come under scrutiny?

Is it really medically necessary, as many of us have been told? Even if it is, shouldn't a male be able to decide to undergo the procedure, if they truly wish, when they're old enough to decide?

Over the past couple of years there have been reports/studies that indicate a circumcised penis is less likely to catch and hang on to STD's or HIV. I still think it's unnecessary and if you practice good hygiene/safe sex, there shouldn't be problems. If you want to stick your unprotected wang into a person you just met, there may be semi-immediate consequences or long term (say, about 9 months to a lifetime) consequences. Of course the longer term ones can be mutilated, killed, and forgotten about so that really isn't an issue either.

Those wacky Jews and Muslims still think it's needed to be in good graces with Jehovah/Allah, but they're wrong.

They said I could be anything, so I became a disappointment.

I'm not against it for adults; let a guy decide how he wants to handle his junk.

But the practice of cutting young boys who aren't able to give consent.... I'm embarrassed that I let it happen to my own son.  My fault.

Well if male circumcision involved chopping the tip of your dick off, then yeah it would be barbaric...but a little male cosmetic surgery never hurt anyone...as a baby.  ;)

Dude - the notion that "it never hurt anyone" is complete bullshit.

You seem to be taking the angle that babies are too young to remember the procedure (duh).

Are you aware that babies die from the procedure? That qualifies as harm...

Me too.  It's barbaric.  I was surprised as to how unmedical the procedure was.  And the staff did it to my youngest son without me present.  I was pissed.

That's quite the imagination you have! How about let's start with a healthy discussion and increased awareness?

It's another medically unnecessary American surgical fad.

'Barbaric mutilation' is overstating it I think, but I'm certainly glad I still have mine.

And a great way for docs to make a little extra golfing cash.

Well it's not just an American thing of course; some religions go in for it wholesale.

Yeah you're right.  But seeing your kid strapped to some sled type thing while they slice it off is unnerving. It's not even covered with most insurance policies!
