Hot off the press, an extensive interview with Alex and Geddy for UK magazine Classic Rock.

Bands in the 70's did lot's of drugs. Who'd have believed it?

Kiss (well Simmons and Stanley) are pricks. Who'd have believed it?

Alex is proud of Caress of Steel. Who'd have believed it?

Thanks for that Pete. Excellent interview.

think some of the mistakes we're hearing on the tour from alex are him fukkin worryin and overthinkin too much about the arthritis and its effects

maybe he needs to smoke a bit before the show

It looks like it's Alex's arthritis that might finish the band as much as Neil's reluctance to tour.

Nice one Pete.

But, wow the bit where Geddy complains that the long instrumentals from the '70s seem "so pretentious".. more than once back then I remember that very accusation being put to him in an interview and of course, he'd refute it vigorously.

It can't be easy for any of them, still doing what they do.

I'm feeling for Alex right now. From the YouTube videos I've watched of the R40 tour, he seems to be the one struggling most...

lol Geddy

"I don't want to get out there as a shadow of my former self."
But he'll totally Yoko Ono the shit out of songs no longer in his vocal range.

labente deinde paulatim disciplina velut desidentes primo mores sequatur animo, deinde ut magis magisque lapsi sint, tum ire coeperint praecipites, donec ad haec tempora quibus nec vitia nostra nec remedia pati possumus perventum est.

First our declining morals slid, bit by bit, and then our very national spirit.  Then the collapse became greater and greater, and our principles began to go, until at last, it has come to this age, in which we can bear neither our crimes nor the cure for them.

It looks like it's Alex's arthritis that might finish the band as much as Neil's reluctance to tour.

That is unfortunate because there are supplements and remedies for arthritis. Only if he knew about them.

If I may address the question of "Proper Rush" as raised by the interviewer in conversation with Geddy - to me it's not the complexity or duration of the tunes, it's the cleverness and inspiration of the chords and melodies. So a short tune like Bacchus' Plateau is proper Rush to me, whereas One Little Victory, just based on a dumb riff being repeated, is improper Rush.
