Thanks for the post. Cool song. I had only ever heard mention of them in history of metal documentaries and stuff.

I saw them in a nightclub in Hartlepool, my home town, in August 1979. Only about 15 people were there for the band. The tiny stage was about a foot off the floor and my mate Barry and I were standing with our pints in our hands, about six feet away. Good night! I tuned out after their first two albums, both great heavy rock records though.

I saw them supporting Motörhead in 1979 and lasted about two more albums than Slim before tuning out. Great fun at the time but their day is long gone now.

I've heard tales told from a reliable source of them falling out on stage mid song, and one of the crew running on, dusting them down and reinserting them into Mr Bifford's mouth...

Fucking hell Rob, we've covered this a million times here on CP.

Slim is the most famous Hartlepool-related entity after the monkey and Jeff Stelling.

Yes, my friend Barry whom I mentioned earlier in this thread and I used to chat to Janick in pubs around the town when we saw him. That was a few years before he was in Iron Maiden though, back then we knew him as the guitar player in Hartlepool's very own White Spirit.

I'm a relative late-comer to Saxon but have acquired most of their back catalogue with Crusader being my favorite.  My one and only time to see them live was September of this year when they were supposed to support Motorhead at a show in Houston.  Motorhead cancelled but Biff and the boys did a special one-off for about 200 of us fans that was really great.

Anytime I saw mention of Saxon on a message board, I thought they were the band that was in heavy MTV rotation back in the '8Os w/ "On The Loose."

Just realized that was Saga.

Just saw that Saxon are touring with UFO in March.  I will have to try and get to one or more of those shows.  The latest album (Battering Ram) is good but Crusader remains my favorite.  Surpisingly in vids I've seen the band are less enamored with Crusader, thinking it was a bit of a mistake in direction.
