i would scan them, Spaceghost, but we don't have one and I'm not paying for it. it took everything I've got and then some just to get down here! but they're turning out pretty well- my cellphone is doing a better job than mom's digital camera, too. I can't wait to do this the "proper" way, although if I had the means to I'd scan them. I'm not editing them or anything, no time. I'm just offloading them and getting them onto a flashdrive to bring back to MA with me. when they're done with cropping etc, I will be putting them in chronological order (because my sister years ago re-arranged all the pics into many albums according to her sense of order, which wasn't chronological), and then putting them on a fresh flashdrive to bring back to mom and install a copy onto her computer when I come back here in summer.

ok, quotes aren't working?
grep, it's an Acer aspire with win7.
jazz, there's only one user on here, no pw needed. I created several folders for various purposes (photos, and notes for paying bills for the Mansfield house while I'm here, etc). so I was xferring pics from the camera onto the laptop, then laptop to flash. I did it several times over a few days until this happened. I did more last night and it is working fine, apparently so far, but I am concerned about the alert because I have no idea if it will damage something, and what's more, I can't make it go away! I keep clicking it off, but it comes back up.

you could always take ownership of the files by booting through safe mode.
