This ran in the on-line and print versions of the Boston Globe. Who in their right mind would think this is okay?

They said I could be anything, so I became a disappointment.

What's worse is it isn't even funny.  If you're going to blow your career, at least make it a good one.

I'm guessing the cartoonist and the editor.

Hey...where's Perry?

We've become too sensitive if this is taken seriously.  Although the punchline wasn't funny.  Would've been funnier if the intruder said, "Oh, I used that"...

That's because racism is still accepted and embraced in England.

How could that possibly be construed as racist?

There's a stereotype here in the US that all blacks love watermelon.

I'm assuming the guy who made into the WH was a racist? Otherwise, the joke doesn't make much sense.

Ah, I see.

To me, that is showing the ignorance of the guy in the bath, not the POTUS.

That's one interpretation. Another interpretation, and the one I suspect Skep is hoping someone will take up, is that the cartoonist was revealing his racism by casting the cartoon in racial terms. That gives Skep the in he's looking for (he's likely chomping at the bit to say that the cartoon isn't racist and that people see racism even when it isn't there).

This one of those "it's racist when I apply my own racism to the racism" things.

From this cartoon, there is no way to construe racism directed at the president unless one is somewhat racist. The cartoon is actually brilliant in a way. What is exactly racist about it? Nothing actually.

Not that I care, but really?

Here's a little bet. Walk up to a group of blacks and tell them there's a season-ending sale on watermelon at Price Chopper and see how well it goes over. My money is on "unpleasantly".

Hey...where's Perry?

Are you suggesting that most blacks don't like the stereotype?

I think he was saying the person would get trampled by the blacks running to the supermarket. ;)
