Dr. Hook was the first rock band I was ever exposed to. Great songs with many lyrics written by Shel Silverstein.

I’ve always been mystified as to why they faded away so quickly - no one knows who the fuck they are! Some of their songs are just completely hilarious.

Daryl Dragon of Captain and Tennille won't go breaking anyone else's heart.

RIP at 76.

EDIT I'm gonna leave that because I thought Don't Go Breakin' My Heart was a Capt and Tennille song.  lol

I think you can look at Darryl Dragon as a guy who made keyboards cool for the masses.  When I think of people my age (our age for the most part) when we were in the 4th grade, there was this sort of wizardly guy playing keys on just about every TV music/variety show.  Sure there were the greats (Emerson, Allman, Wakeman, etc), but they were on FM radio at a time when we hadn't yet started to listen to FM radio.  Would we have the same curiosity about synths, etc, to carry us to where these got in the 80s without Darryl Dragon?

And he was a pioneer of the yacht rock aesthetic. :)

Dragon's familiar image and stage name came from his time as a keyboard player with The Beach Boys from 1967 to 1972. Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love gave him the nickname "Captain Keyboard", and it stuck; Dragon began wearing a nautical captain's hat to go along with the name.

And Stevie Wonder and maybe Benny Andersson too. Elton John and Richard Carpenter were more associated with a clean piano sound. Others could be The Cars, Blondie, etc. But yeah as far as a Top 40 pop audience goes Dragon had to be influential too.

It's interesting how certain performers get tossed aside when considering who the big influencers on pop and rock music were. It probably has a lot to do with how cool or not cool these musicians are perceived to be.

2019 posing an early challenge to 2016 in the celebrity death pool. Gonna need some bigger names though.

Not that I’m rooting for this...just an observation

Yep, Juan Valdez...rather the actor who played him, Carlos Sanchez, passed away at the ripe age of 83.

Thank you Juan for picking those perfect coffee beans
