I'm not even sure what's most awesome about this video - the giant statue of what looks to be Jesus, the skeleton costumes for the band or the fact that they are singing about eating chocolate.

Fuck this is awesome...

It's BABY METAL!  Apparently they are huge in Japan...I'm their biggest, newest fan in the States!

Yes, that's a pretty popular J-pop band my daughter is fond of.

My Daughter probably already knows of this band, having introduced me to S.A.S ( A Korean pop group of fifteen years ago approx)  She's into this 'alternative' type music....

That's not long enough to hear the girls sing, and they sing pretty well. It certainly doesn't go with the music.

They said I could be anything, so I became a disappointment.

Yea, you have to give it a little time. The playing is tight and the girls add a neat and unexpected dimension...

Try again!

Posted exactly one month prior to Greg's initial post in this thread: http://rushmessagebo...ing-to/?p=45023

Edit:  Oh, and Greg... that's not Jesus, it's the Virgin Mary (no idea why, either).  The song is also about worrying about getting fat from eating chocolate.

They're playing Sonisphere 2014 (July 6 in the Bohemia tent) in the UK.  It'll be their first appearance in Europe.  They also helped promote Metallica's movie in Japan, and one of the girls was quoted after the Sonisphere announcement that they were looking forward to seeing "Metallica-san" again.

Other vids:

Death (from their debut album released in February)

Doki Doki Morning (a single from a year and a half ago)

Ok so they (she?) can sing.  Song still sucks.  Sorry.

Well, you gave it a shot...!

Maxx, I must have seen your link before, because I know that about that time I saw Baby Metal.  Thought it was cool, but heard a story in NPR the other day and pulled it up again.  Love it...such a crazy mashup.

If y'all dig that there is a band from Japan with a little more irony:

They rule.  I've seen em.  Amazing.

Sounds like what happened to me when I first heard about them.  Someone posted a link to Gimme Chocolate on Facebook.  I watched it and thought it was interesting, but nothing amazing.  This was back in very late February-very early March.  I didn't think much about it over the next couple weeks, but when I was jumping around one night watching various vids on YouTube, it popped up in one of the sidebar lists, so I watched it again.  Liked it a *lot* more, and from there, spent the next hour or two watching all their other stuff on YT, including subbed interviews with the girls.  Looked 'em up on Wiki, then did a Google search for Babymetal-related stories.

They're now my favorite "new" group.

This unofficial fansite has translations for all the songs: http://babymetal.net/
