If The Beatles hadn't done it, someone else would have.  They're nothing special at all. They laid a foundation.  Most others after than demolished their foundation and tossed it in the trash.

For once, bordercollie is correct and I agree with some of those bands.

I've heard or read a lot of times that if xxx didn't do this then that wouldn't have happened but there is no human way possible to determine that.

They said I could be anything, so I became a disappointment.

Quick hits from the bong (wish):

- U2 enjoyed planet-wide circulation & adulation; much commercial influence,

- Rush oozes sheer musical & commercial influence with an ever expanding audience appeal all while in the 'back-half' of their careers.

- Led Zeppelin was brilliant blues-rock insanity and it worked on every single album they put out. (of course some better than others, duh)

Oh, since they're in the same company as Usher and Half-Dollar, you've convinced me otherwise!!!!

I'll take that as proof that you're clueless.

Hey...where's Perry?

Who's the better guitar player? VH or Petrucci? Clapton or Jeff Beck? Bassist: Geddy or Squire?

VH. Clapton. Geddy.

I'm a worthless douchenozzle, so an immature comment is to be expected of me.  I'll take that as proof that you're clueless.

At least you're honest with yourself. :)

I'd say Zep's overrated as hell and doesn't deserve the consideration either.

Is that a toe question ?

But none of the above groups are better than the Kinks.

If it weren't for Lonnie Donegan, there'd have been no Beatles, so why isn't he on the list?

Me mum saw the Beatles in Scotland with Lonnie Donegan as the headliner. He even gave her a ride home!

Hey...where's Perry?

The point is, it did. In my life, (pun intended) The Beatles weren't the first music I was ever exposed to, but I was there. It hasn't been properly explained (at least in my experience), but ungodly intricacies had to 'come together' (one more) for this event in History to happen. Other groups could've done this, that & The other thing, but they didn't, The Beatles did. My next door neighbor, Kristy Norman, got a Beatle wig, soon after the Ed Sullivan Show episode, Feb. 9th, 1964, and of course she had to have me over to try it on! Wish I could get my hands on the photo her Mom took of that!
I had a Bakelite type AM radio my parents let me have, and the local AM station, CKLW, out of Windsor, Canada was THE Station in our area as far as 'Top 40' pop was concerned and even with Detroit being 'Motown' with all that implies in the R&B part of Music Land, you heard at least two Beatle songs per hour, and most times, three! Nobody has ever come even close to that since, barring "All 'band X'" weekends and such type playlists on Radio/webnet. I am genuinely saddened by those of you who have to put down other things you don't like for whatever reasons, (Jealousy?) but there is one thing you can't refute. It's recorded in HISTORY. It happened. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it, haters! YES-2.gif

My Bakelite radio was similar to this one....BakeliteRadio-50s60s.jpg

Somewhere in a pile of old photos at my Mom's home is a photograph of my Grandfather wearing a Beatle wig, strumming a uke and you can also see a Beatles lp in the photo too, I think....

My first LP's were "Meet The Beatles" and "Introducing The Beatles".

I also played "Joey Dee and the Starlighters-Live at the Peppermint Lounge" into the friggin' dirt when I was in my single-digit years.

My Parents bought me all the Disney stuff...Mary Poppins,  Jungle Book, an album of Sousa Marches played by a college Marching band (I was in love with the 'Majorette' on the cover...great legs, man!) but the first 'pop' album was "The Chipmunks play The Beatles Hits" Vol. 1 it's mostly how I learned to drum initially...also any performance on TV....drummer-smiley.gif

If they are in fact better than The Beatles, they have done nothing to impress me musically. So they don't exist in my own world, even if i know they have some recognition in the world community of fans base. It's like all those polls, they exist for people who are only starting to discover music.

Like you?  To say that "they have done nothing to impress me musically."  What?  Have you even listened to any of their albums?  Do you have any experience in playing or writing music?  If I had to guess, I'd guess you have no knowledge of either to be able to make that post you made. :blink2:
